Swordcery is a roguelike action RPG developed by indie studio Temple Door Games. The premise: a colossal blade has pierced the world of Armorial, unleashing a storm of enchanted swords from the heavens. You play as a warrior who collects and wields these spellbound blades, turning them against the Celestial evil that summoned them.
The game caught attention at indie events for its satisfying sword-collection mechanic and fast-paced combat. Temple Door Games describes it as "a love letter to action RPGs with a focus on weapon discovery."
How to Play Swordcery
Sword collection: The world is littered with enchanted swords, each with unique properties, elemental affinities, and special abilities. Some are found in chests, others dropped by enemies, and hidden legendary blades await in secret areas. You can carry multiple swords and switch between them mid-combat.
Combat: Real-time action combat with a focus on mobility and adaptation. Different swords have different attack patterns, speeds, and ranges. A greatsword deals heavy damage but is slow; a rapier is fast but weak per hit; a curved sword balances both. Match your weapon to the enemy's weaknesses.
The Celestial threat: The storm of swords isn't random — it's being controlled by a Celestial evil that seeks to consume Armorial. As you progress, you'll face corrupted sword-wielders, massive bosses, and eventually the source itself.
Roguelike elements: Each run is different. Sword placement, enemy encounters, and even world layout shift between runs. Death sends you back but you keep certain permanent upgrades and knowledge.
Upgrade system: Collect essence from defeated enemies to upgrade your blades. Each sword has its own upgrade tree. Investing in a sword you love can carry you far, but discovering new blades is half the fun.

Tips and Tricks
Try every sword you find. Even a seemingly weak sword might have a hidden ability or elemental advantage against upcoming enemies. The game rewards experimentation.
Build a balanced loadout. Carry at least one fast sword for crowds, one heavy sword for armored enemies, and one special blade for bosses. You can switch instantly, so adapt to each encounter.
Watch enemy patterns. Every enemy type has telegraphed attacks. Learn to dodge roll through big swings and punish recovery windows. The Celestial's minions hit hard — don't trade blows.
Upgrade your favorites. Once you find a sword that clicks with your playstyle, invest essence into its upgrade tree. A fully upgraded common sword can outperform a base legendary.
Explore thoroughly. Secret areas often contain the best swords. Look for cracked walls that can be broken, hidden passages, and environmental puzzles. The world of Armorial rewards curiosity.
Don't hoard essence. Spend it. Essence is plentiful, and unupgraded swords will struggle against mid-game enemies. If you find a better sword later, you can usually recover some investment.
