What Is VROOMSDAY?
VROOMSDAY is a top-down racing roguelike developed by pstuudio and available for free in web browsers. You drive a beat-up truck through endless zombie hordes, balancing speed against fuel consumption while making upgrade trade-offs between rounds. Every run is procedurally generated — the zombie density, road hazards, fuel can placements, and upgrade options all change, so no two VROOMSDAYs play the same.
The core tension is simple: go fast to survive, but going fast burns fuel. Run out of gas and you're stranded in a horde. The game rewards aggressive driving but punishes wasteful speeding, creating a constant push-pull between risk and reward.

How to Play
Core Loop
You drive through a procedurally generated road filled with zombie clusters, debris, and fuel pickups. The goal is to survive as long as possible, racking up distance and score. Between each stage, you visit an upgrade screen where you choose between two or three random upgrades — but each choice has a trade-off.
Driving & Combat
Your truck automatically moves forward. Use WASD to steer left, right, up, and down across the screen. Zombies lurch toward you from all directions. Hitting them at speed destroys them and scores points, but each collision also damages your truck. If your health reaches zero, the run ends.
The Space bar activates a drift or boost mechanic depending on context — drifting lets you make sharp turns to avoid clusters, while boosting gives a short speed burst that can plow through thicker groups.
Fuel Management
Fuel is displayed as a gauge on screen. It depletes continuously while driving and drains faster when boosting. Running out of fuel doesn't instantly kill you — it slows your truck to a crawl, making you easy prey for zombies. Fuel cans appear randomly on the road. Running over a can refills a portion of your tank. Planning your route to collect fuel while avoiding zombies is the key survival skill.
Upgrades & Trade-offs
Between stages, you're offered upgrade choices. These are never pure buffs — every upgrade has a drawback. Examples include:
- Heavy Armor: +30% health, -15% acceleration
- Turbo Engine: +25% top speed, -20% fuel efficiency
- Reinforced Bumper: Ram damage +50%, turning radius worsened
- Fuel Tanks: +40% fuel capacity, -10% max health
Choosing wisely based on your current situation is the difference between a short run and a record score. A fuel-efficient build might be safer for long-distance runs, while a combat-focused build helps clear dense hordes.
End Conditions
Your run ends when your truck's health reaches zero. There is no final boss or ending screen — the game is a high-score chaser. Distance traveled, zombies destroyed, and fuel efficiency all contribute to your final score, which can be compared with other players via the leaderboard.

Beginner Mistakes to Avoid
| Mistake | Why It Hurts | How to Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Holding boost constantly | Drains fuel extremely fast. You'll run out mid-stage and get swarmed. | Use boost only to escape tight clusters or cross dangerous open sections. Tap, don't hold. |
| Ignoring fuel cans | Even at half tank, skipping a can you could easily reach is risky. The next stretch may have none. | Make a habit of veering toward every fuel can within reach. A full tank is your insurance policy. |
| Picking the same upgrade every time | Each run is different. A speed upgrade on a fuel-starved map is a death sentence. | Read the trade-off text carefully. Match your upgrade to your current truck's weakness, not your preferred playstyle. |
| Driving in a straight line | Zombies cluster in predictable patterns. A straight path runs you into every horde. | Weave constantly. A gentle zigzag pattern avoids many collisions without losing much speed. |
| Over-correcting drifts | Drifting too aggressively spins you out, costing momentum and often landing you in worse positions. | Tap Space briefly while turning — a short drift is usually enough. Hold Space only for hairpin turns. |
| Not watching the health bar | It's easy to focus on fuel and forget health. A few unlucky hits can end a run silently. | Glance at your health bar after every collision. If it's below 30%, play defensively until you find a repair pickup. |
