Invaders Loop is a roguelite arcade shooter developed by solo developer hunterllama. Released on Steam on June 30, 2026 for $2.80, it combines the nostalgic feel of classic arcade shooters like Space Invaders with modern roguelite mechanics.
The core loop is simple: survive relentless waves of enemies raining down from the depths of space, dodge bullets, equip yourself with various items and power-ups between waves, and push deeper into an ever-escalating challenge. Each run is different thanks to randomized item drops, enemy configurations, and power-up combinations.

Core Mechanics
Wave Combat. Enemies descend from the top of the screen in formation patterns. Each wave increases in speed, density, and complexity. Some enemies shoot back, some split into smaller enemies when destroyed, and some drop power-ups.
Roguelite Item System. Between waves, you enter a shop where you can spend credits earned from defeated enemies. Items include:
- Weapons — Spread shot, laser beam, homing missiles, plasma cannon
- Upgrades — Increased fire rate, multi-shot, shield, auto-repair
- Passives — Extra credits, improved dodge, bullet magnetism
Boss Fights. Every fifth wave ends with a boss encounter. Bosses have unique attack patterns and weak points. Defeating a boss unlocks a permanent upgrade for future runs.
Looping. After completing all waves, you can choose to "loop" — restart from wave 1 with all your items and upgrades retained, but with increased enemy health and speed. How many loops can you survive?
Difficulty Modes
Normal. Standard difficulty. Recommended for first-time players. Hard. Enemies are faster, more numerous, and deal more damage. Loop Mode. Start at wave 1 and keep looping indefinitely. Leaderboard tracking enabled.
Tips and Strategies
Prioritize movement over shooting. Staying alive is more important than killing every enemy. Learn enemy patterns and focus on dodging first.
Build synergy. Some items work better together. For example, the spread shot weapon pairs well with increased fire rate, and homing missiles work great with bullet magnetism.
Save credits for boss waves. The shop before a boss wave offers premium items. Save at least half your credits for these shops.
Learn boss patterns. Each boss has a tell before its attack. The first boss telegraphs its laser with a glow-up animation. The second boss pauses before its missile barrage.
Dodge toward bullets, not away. Counter-intuitive but true: dodging toward incoming bullets often puts you in the gap between them. Dodging away can trap you against the screen edge.
The Loop System
The "loop" is the game's central mechanic. After clearing all waves, you get the option to loop. Each loop:
- Resets the wave counter to 1
- Increases enemy health by 20%
- Increases enemy speed by 10%
- Adds new enemy types
- Awards bonus credits for each loop completed
There is no theoretical limit to loops. The leaderboard tracks your highest loop count.
