Wishlist on SteamWhat Is HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate?
HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate is an arcade snowboarder that brings back the fast-paced, trick-heavy style of classics like SSX while adding modern mechanics and anime-inspired visuals. Developed by Wabisabi Games and published by Acclaim, Inc., it drops you into a stylized high-energy world where speed, style, and creativity define your ride.
Choose from a cast of unique riders, each with distinct stats and special abilities. Carve through dynamic mountain slopes built for racing, trick mastery, and exploration. Compete for the highest score, fastest time, or just shred with friends in split-screen or online multiplayer.
The game targets players who miss arcade sports games — titles that prioritize fun over simulation, where a well-timed trick chain and a perfect landing feel more satisfying than realistic physics.
Getting Started
Choose Your Rider
Each rider has a unique stat spread and special ability. Stats affect three core attributes:
Speed determines your base velocity and acceleration. High-speed riders are harder to control but faster on straight sections.
Control affects turning radius, landing stability, and how easily you recover from crashes. High-control riders excel in technical courses with tight turns.
Style boosts your trick multiplier and the speed at which your trick meter fills. High-style riders get bigger scores from trick chains.
Rider specials are activated when your trick meter is full. They provide temporary boosts — speed bursts, score multipliers, or defensive shields.
Basic Controls
- Steer — left/right to turn. Tilt forward to accelerate, backward to brake.
- Jump — hit ramps and bumps to catch air. Hold before a ramp for a bigger jump.
- Tricks — in the air, combine directional inputs with action buttons for different tricks.
- Balance — while in the air or grinding, use the balance mechanic to stick the landing.
- Boost — spend accumulated trick meter on speed bursts.
Game Modes
Race — traditional downhill race against AI or other players. First to the bottom wins. Multiple courses with shortcuts and alternate routes.
Trick Attack — score as many points as possible within a time limit. Trick chains, rail grinds, and huge jumps are the path to high scores.
Freeride — explore slopes without time pressure. Find collectibles, discover secret areas, and practice tricks.
Versus — split-screen or online head-to-head racing. Up to 4 players.
Leaderboard — compete for the fastest times and highest trick scores on each course.
Trick System
Trick Categories
Three main categories, each with different scoring potential and risk:
Grabs — hold the board in the air. Low risk, moderate reward. Good for consistent scoring and filling the trick meter.
Flips — rotate your body and board. Moderate risk, high reward. More rotations = more points. Landing is harder with more flips.
Spins — rotate around the vertical axis. High risk, highest reward. Multiple spins with grabs for maximum score.
Trick Chaining
Chain multiple tricks in a single jump for a multiplier. Each consecutive trick adds 0.5x to the multiplier, up to 5x. The multiplier resets on landing or crash.
Chain example: Grab → Flip → Spin → Grab = 4 tricks in one jump = 3x multiplier on all four tricks.
Rail Grinds
Grind on rails, pipes, and ledges for bonus points and trick meter fill. While grinding, you can:
- Switch rails — jump between adjacent rails for a style bonus
- Slide variations — different button combinations change your grind style
- Grind tricks — perform tricks while on the rail (risky but rewarding)
Landing
The landing mechanic determines whether you stick your trick or crash. A small timing window at the end of your jump. Perfect landings give a score bonus and maintain your trick chain. Bad landings cause a crash, ending the chain and losing speed.
Pro tip: Don't over-commit. A clean landing with a moderate trick is better than a spectacular crash. Know your limits and save the risky tricks for when you have a comfortable lead.
Riders
The full roster hasn't been revealed, but confirmed riders include:
Yuki — balanced stats across the board. Special: Speed Burst — temporary acceleration boost. Best starter rider.
Ryo — high speed, low control. Special: Drift Boost — generates boost meter from drifting. For experienced players who can handle fast, twitchy movement.
Maya — high control, lower speed. Special: Perfect Landing — guaranteed perfect landings for 10 seconds. For players who prioritize trick chains.
Kaito — high style, low control. Special: Trick Frenzy — all tricks score double for 8 seconds. For score attack specialists.
Luna — high speed, low style. Special: Ghost — become intangible and pass through obstacles. For racing purists.
Course Types
Mountain Slopes
Traditional downhill courses with varied terrain. Key features:
- Natural jumps — bumps and ridges that launch you into the air
- Forest sections — tight corridors between trees. High risk, shortcuts available
- Cliff edges — ride close to the edge for speed boosts, fall off if you misjudge
- Ice patches — reduced traction, harder to control. Skilled players can drift through
Park Courses
Man-made terrain parks designed for trick chains:
- Kickers — large jumps designed for big air and multi-trick chains
- Rails — grind rails of varying length and complexity
- Half-pipes — massive U-shaped structures for vertical tricks
- Boxes — flat rails for slide tricks
City Courses
Urban environments with snow-covered streets:
- Roof jumps — leap between buildings
- Street rails — grind on handrails, benches, and ledges
- Traffic — obstacles to avoid or use as jump ramps
- Alley shortcuts — narrow passages that reward precise control
Multiplayer

Up to 4 players on the same screen. Supports all game modes. Each player selects a rider and course. Performance affects unlock progress for all participants.
Online
Head-to-head racing with matchmaking. Leaderboards track fastest times and highest scores per course. Online supports ranked and casual queues.
Remote Play Together
Steam Remote Play Together is supported, letting you play split-screen with friends who don't own the game.
Tips for Beginners
Master the flow. Arcade snowboarding is about maintaining momentum. Avoid hard braking — it's better to take a wider turn than to lose all your speed. Smooth, flowing lines are faster than aggressive, jerky ones.
Learn one course at a time. Each course has unique rhythm, shortcuts, and ideal trick locations. Run the same course 5-10 times to learn its secrets before moving on.
Prioritize clean landings. A perfect landing on a simple grab is worth more than a crash on a triple spin. Build consistency with basic tricks, then add complexity.
Use the trick meter. The trick meter fills when you perform tricks and grinds. A full meter lets you activate your rider special or gives a temporary speed boost. Don't let it sit full.
Shortcuts aren't always faster. Some shortcuts are riskier than the main path. Learn which shortcuts are worth taking and which will cost you time.
Watch the minimap. The minimap shows upcoming turns, jumps, and obstacles. Plan your line before you reach them rather than reacting at the last moment.
Balance on rails. Rail grinding requires active balance input — lean too far one way and you fall off. The balance indicator shows your position. Small, frequent corrections work better than large ones.
Trick selection matters. On short jumps, stick to grabs and simple flips. On huge kickers, go for multi-spin combos with grabs. Match your trick to the jump size.
