What Is MECCHA CHAMELEON?
MECCHA CHAMELEON is a multiplayer hide-and-seek game developed by lemorion_1224, released on Steam in June 2026. The twist: instead of physically hiding behind objects, you paint your character's body to match the colors and patterns of the stage background. If you blend in well enough, the seekers walk right past you. If your camouflage fails, you get caught. It is part stealth game, part puzzle, and part art project — all wrapped into fast-paced online matches.
The game supports both public matchmaking and private lobbies. Hiders win by surviving the round without being found. Seekers win by identifying and tagging as many hiders as possible. The "meccha" (Japanese slang for "extremely" or "super") in the title reflects the over-the-top blending techniques players develop.
How to Play MECCHA CHAMELEON
Basic Setup
Each match splits players into two teams: Hiders and Seekers. Before the round starts, hiders see the stage they will be placed on and get access to a paint palette. You have a short preparation window to study the background and plan your camouflage.
Playing as a Hider
-
Study the stage. Look at the dominant colors, patterns, and shapes in your assigned section of the map. Notice lighting gradients and repeating textures.
-
Select your paints. Use the color palette to pick 2-3 base colors. You can mix and layer paints on your body for more nuanced shades.
-
Apply paint strategically. Paint the parts of your body that will be visible from the seeker's perspective. The head and torso matter most — extremities are harder to spot at a distance.
-
Strike a pose. Your pose matters as much as your paint. Stand still in a position that breaks up your human silhouette. Crouch near similarly-colored objects, or press against walls to reduce your visible profile.
-
Hold still. The hardest part. Seekers scan the stage and any movement — even a slight twitch — can give you away. Resist the urge to adjust your position mid-round.
Playing as a Seeker
-
Scan methodically. Move through the stage in a grid pattern. Look for anything that breaks the pattern — a color slightly off, a shape that does not belong, or an edge that looks too smooth.
-
Watch for tells. Hiders sometimes shift position when they think you are not looking. Keep an eye on areas you have already checked.
-
Tag to confirm. When you spot a suspected hider, approach and tag them. You get points for correct identifications. Wrong tags may cost you time.
-
Communicate with teammates. Coordinate with other seekers to cover the map efficiently and call out suspicious spots.

Tips and Tricks
For Hiders
- Match the lighting, not just the color. A dark corner has shadows — paint yourself slightly darker than the base color to account for ambient occlusion.
- Use edges. Standing at the boundary between two colored zones lets you split your body paint to match both sides.
- Avoid symmetry. Human bodies are symmetrical. Paint one side slightly differently to break the recognizable shape.
- Learn the maps. Each stage has "safe zones" where certain color schemes are easy to replicate. Memorize these for quick setups.
- The "statue" technique. If the stage has objects like mannequins, crates, or columns, stand rigidly next to them. Seekers often overlook stationary objects.
For Seekers
- Check the unusual spots first. Most hiders avoid obvious hiding places and pick unconventional angles. Look at ceiling corners, floor edges, and partially obscured alcoves.
- Look for the shine. Fresh paint has a slight sheen that natural textures lack. Scan for reflective surfaces.
- Sound cues. Some actions produce subtle audio. Listen for paint application sounds or movement during the preparation phase.
- Don't tunnel-vision. If you stare at one spot too long, hiders elsewhere get comfortable. Keep your eyes moving.
